Who We Are
Develop & Learn in a Safe, Healthy & Loving Environment.
Our mission is to provide a warm, safe and child-centered environment that encourages positive self-esteem, self-discovery, social interaction and active learning for young children. We have built a full, rich educational community through respect and mutual understanding among children, staff and families. We strive for the York Avenue Day School experience to be one where childhood is a journey and never a race.
Our philosophy is that children develop and learn best in a safe, secure, healthy and loving environment. At the York Avenue Day School we combine multiple progressive theories to create environments and emergent curricula that are integrated, dynamic and intentional.
Our children develop a sense of themselves as valued, creative, and imaginative individuals. We strive to teach our students persistence, curiosity, flexibility and respect for one’s environment and those in it.
Our faculty is a group of caring teachers who are experienced, degreed or certified in Early Childhood Education or a related field, and are supported by warm, loving, and dedicated teacher assistants. Teachers are the heart of our program.
Our families are specialists in their child’s learning. Daily reports, parent conferences, and open communication keeps us connected and build the bridge between home and school.
Our curriculum is engaging and responsive to children’s interests and experiences. We follow an emergent and progressive approach to create a curriculum that is differentiated and adapted to the individual needs of each child.
Our administrators are a team of knowledgeable directors. Each has extensive experience in teaching, child development and early childhood education.
