Fours
Our oldest learners are immersed in exploring friendships, skills, and their understanding of the world. Although they have plenty of freedom and opportunity to play, we also thoughtfully embed kindergarten readiness skills throughout the day, so that they are prepared for whatever classroom they step into next. Our teachers ensure:
An emphasis on expanding literacy skills, with a phonetic approach to letter of the week studies, journal writing with invented spelling, and a word wall for students with advancing skills
Increasing ability to compare and contrast, think critically, and create through concrete, developmentally appropriate workshop activities, author of the month studies, artist studies, and math games that further develop skills in numbers and operations
Balance between independence and collaboration during play, work, and classroom routines, increasing students’ ability to read social cues, resolve conflicts and create strong friendships
Our goal is that our students stay with us throughout their early childhood years, from their first year of enrollment, to our graduating Fours class. We strongly believe that the continuity of education and care offered by our program benefits students and families alike. We understand that there are alternative school options available to four-year olds. We want to make it easier for families to keep their children in our school that is dedicated to early childhood education, so we offer a preferred tuition to continuing families for their Fours year. We hope that this, combined with the excellence of the education, facility, and enrichment offered by York Avenue Day School, makes us the right choice for your family.
