Top Tips to Navigating Early Childhood Admissions

In New York City, there is an abundance of choice when it comes to early childhood care. It can feel overwhelming and daunting to know how to navigate the process of finding, applying, and accepting a place at the right environment for your child.  Having been a part of the landscape of early childhood admissions for the past 27 years, the Admissions team at York has compiled a list of helpful tips to make the process as seamless as possible.

Researching your Options

  1. Take time reviewing each schools’ website. These offer a wealth of information including program options, curriculum information, and tuitions.

  2. Email the school with any questions that could not be answered from the website.

  3. Ensure your needs as a family align with the what the school offers.

Submitting Applications

  1. Submit your application and all supplemental materials before the application deadline.

  2. Schedule a school tour and come prepared with your questions – admissions directors are a wealth of knowledge and are more than happy to answer all your questions

  3. If you particularly liked a school, send a follow up email after your tour, thanking them for their time and identifying a few specific reasons the school stuck out to you.

Responding to Notifications

  1. When you receive you an acceptance from a school that you would like to enroll your child in, please let them know as soon as possible. It is best not to wait until the acceptance decision deadline.

  2. Notify other schools that you have accepted an offer from another school. This allows the other schools to release the spot to someone on their wait list.

  3. If you are waitlisted at a school that you would like to have your child attend, please contact them and let them know you are interested in staying on the waitlist.

Admissions teams are the best resource to guide you through each step of the process. They are there to help you and ensure a positive experience for you and your family, regardless of which place you ultimately choose.
